Constitution - the system of beliefs and laws by which a country, state, or organization is governed.
The Code of Justice, issued by the Sumerian King Urukagina of Lagash, is historically the earliest known prototype of a form of laws of government. It’s purpose was to grant civil rights to the citizens of Lagash. In it, he proposed a tax to aid widows and orphans, and he wrote protections for the poor against unethical treatment by the rich.
Athens, the leading city of Ancient Greece, played a large historical role in the development of constitutional laws that reformed society's structure from a more draconian state with a harsh death penalty into a more democratic institution that protected the rights of its citizens. These cultural achievements during the 5th century B.C. laid the foundation for today's Western civilization.
As a result of a long social struggle between the ruling class and the workers, the Romans drafted basic procedural rights that granted all Roman citizens a unified code of law. This set up the framework for an independent judicial system that ensured fairness of the law.
Aristotle, an ancient Greek philosopher and scientist, is the founder of the idea of constitutionalism and described it simply as “the arrangement of the offices in a state.” He is responsible for breaking down the idea of ethics and political theory, and making a formal distinction between ordinary law and constitutional law. He also theorized about what different forms a constitutional government could take.
1. 193 countries currently have a written constitution.
2. 6 countries currently have no written constitution: Britain, Israel, Libya, New Zealand, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.
3. India’s constitution is the longest written constitution of any country.
4. The U.S. Constitution is the oldest and shortest constitution of any major government in the world.
5. Ecuador’s constitution grants the most human rights for its citizens at 99.
6. Arguably, Switzerland has the best overall constitution.
Bylaws are an organization's internal operating rules. Federal tax law does not require specific language in the bylaws of most organizations. State law may require nonprofit corporations to have bylaws, however, and nonprofit organizations generally find it advisable to have internal operating rules.
One Life Charity is structured with the framework of an independent nonsectarian socialist parliamentary constitutional direct democracy. The constitution or bylaws will be written by The Founders who will make up the parliamentary, also known as The High Council (THC). The Council of Freethinkers (Board of Directors) is responsible for ratifying and making calls for any amendments.
The Chair of the Board proposes to create a constitutional direct democracy. In theory, all members of the Federation Force would vote to approve any legislation ratified by the COB. Once the High Council convenes in the Hall of Freethinkers, it will be their duty to amend the bylaws and draft a new constitution. The constitution must be ratified by a majority vote of all 1,000 Founders.
One Life Charity was founded as a nonprofit corporation in Delaware, which does not require a copy of an organization’s bylaws.
The Board of Directors (Council of Freethinkers) reserves the right to call for amending the bylaws at any time. Any changes must be reported annually to the IRS when filing annual Form 990.
Bylaws are not public documents, but for full transparency and accountability purposes, all One Life Charity bylaws and amendments shall be posted below.
